Lake Lanier Islands

Lake Lanier Islands a wonderful place to vacation for locals and out of towner’s.

Lake Lanier Islands are a small collected group of islands located on Lake Lanier located in Northeast Georgia. Lake Lanier happens to be the largest lake in Georgia. The islands are now the largest land inside the shores once the dam was built and the low land flooded.

Lake Lanier Islands were originally owned by the State of Georgia, but now is owned privately and currently boasts a full Resort with many accommodations.

The islands are a main local and national tourist destination, with one mile of shore line, beaches, water park, and Georgia’s largest wave pool.  The beach and water park sadly  closed on September 7, 2007 due to the Georgia Drought we are currently experiencing. At the time of this post, Lake Lanier water levels are rising and with good fortune, I expect the lake levels to rise enough that Lake Lanier Islands beach and water park will be open for 2009!
